Sericulture

Farm of Shri Tejasvi Naik
Modaga, Dist: Belgaum, Karnataka

Mr & Mrs Tejasvi Naik of Modaga near Belgaum since last 6 months have been practising Homa Therapy on their sericulture farm. They were advised to dust the silkworms with Agnihotra ash to protect them from various bacterial and fungal diseases.

They have a floriculture green house where they are growing gerbera. They had disease problems in sericulture and pest problems in the green house before they introduced Homa Therapy.

The following are the results.

  • In the month of July 2005 when sericulture is not successfully possible due to heavy rains here but they had a crop of 600 layings to get a yield of 450kg silk cocoons (commercial grade).
  • The whole produce was sold instantly at market for Rs118/kg mainly due to high percent silk content in the cocoons.
  • In the month of August 2005 from only half acre mulberry leaves they got 172kg silk cocoons (seed grade) from 200 layings. This is an unbelievable yield which was 100% disease free and very good quality. They got Rs320/kg against normal Rs200/kg. This is the highest money earning moment for them in last 10 years of their sericulture.
  • A number of birds have come in their Homa Organic sericulture farm. Most of them have built their nests on the tree above the central Agnihotra hut.
  • The plastic covering of the green house was damaged in few places and the birds could enter inside. They had serious problem of whitefly on gerbera flowers. The birds have controlled the whitefly by eating them.
  • Number of earthworms has increased on the farm.
  • The results have been noted by the Sericulture Department of the Karnataka State Government, Belgaum.
  • Recharging of the well: Water level has increased by 65 feet and is just 20 feet below the ground level. This is first time in last 10 years we have had so much.
